Can quick-dry clothing be machine washed?

Jun 08, 2026

Criteria for determining machine washability
Standard polyester quick-dry clothing: Basic models without special waterproof coatings can be machine washed normally; high-quality versions often retain their shape and quick-drying performance even after repeated washing.
Quick-dry clothing with waterproof coatings: Standard machine washing is not recommended. If machine washing is necessary, use the "delicate" or "gentle" cycle to avoid vigorous agitation that could damage the surface waterproof membrane.
Specially labeled items: If the garment label explicitly states "hand wash only," do not machine wash, as this could cause fabric snagging or deformation.

Proper machine washing guidelines
Turn the garment inside out and close all zippers before washing. Place it in a dedicated laundry bag to prevent snagging caused by contact with garments featuring sharp embellishments or hardware.
Use a neutral detergent and keep the water temperature below 40°C. Do not use fabric softeners or chlorine-based bleach, as these can clog the fabric's moisture-wicking micropores.
Avoid high-speed spin cycles. Since quick-dry fabrics dry rapidly on their own, vigorous spinning can deform the material; simply wring out excess water gently by hand.

Drying instructions after washing
After washing, remove the garment and hang it on a wide-shouldered hanger to distribute weight evenly. Allow it to air dry naturally in a cool, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight and high-heat tumble drying to prevent the synthetic fibers from aging or becoming stiff.
