How to Choose the Right Outdoor Sportswear

Jun 15, 2026

Select features based on the activity
Different outdoor activities have distinct requirements for clothing:

Running and cycling: Prioritize quick-drying, breathable fabrics. Choose gear with reflective strips for night runs; opt for fluorescent yellow-green during the day to enhance visibility, and orange-red at night for better standout.
Hiking and mountaineering: Wear a quick-drying, moisture-wicking base layer, a fleece or down mid-layer for warmth, and a windproof/waterproof shell as the outer layer. Avoid cotton fabrics, as they absorb sweat and can lead to hypothermia.
Summer outdoor activities: Prioritize professional UV-protective fabrics that meet the GB/T 18830-2009 standard with a UPF rating greater than 40; dark colors generally offer better sun protection than standard light-colored fabrics.

Pay attention to fabric and tailoring details
For core fabrics, prioritize polyester, spandex, or Merino wool to ensure moisture absorption and quick drying, preventing the discomfort of sticky, clammy fabric against the skin.
Look for garments with articulated tailoring at the joints to ensure a full range of motion without restriction; for activities requiring high flexibility-such as yoga-choose styles made from highly elastic fabrics.

Color and safety considerations
For jungle expeditions, avoid green or pale yellow; instead, choose bright colors that contrast sharply with the environment to make it easier for teammates to spot you and for rescuers to locate you in an emergency.
To prevent mosquito bites in summer, avoid dark colors and opt for light-colored clothing to reduce the likelihood of attracting insects.
