Women's T-Shirt Fabrics

Jul 12, 2026

Mainstream fabrics for women's T-shirts each have distinct characteristics; you can choose the one that best suits your needs:

Pure Cotton
Standard Cotton/Combed Cotton: Skin-friendly and breathable; affordable and suitable for daily wear. High-count long-staple cotton offers a finer texture and greater durability.
Mercerized Cotton: Treated with a special process, it features a natural sheen, wrinkle resistance, and a smooth feel; it remains comfortable and breathable even during long periods of sitting at a desk.

Cool & Breathable
Tencel (Lyocell): Cool to the touch with superior moisture absorption (1.5 times faster than standard cotton); it doesn't stick to the skin when sweating. Blended versions help mitigate the tendency of pure Tencel to wrinkle or lose its shape.
Modal: Finer fibers than cotton, offering a silky feel and excellent drape. It stays soft after washing and is gentle on sensitive skin.
Cotton-Linen Blend: Features an open weave for high breathability-allowing air to pass through easily-and dries quickly without clinging to the body; ideal for those who dislike feeling overheated.

Functional Quick-Dry
Primarily made from polyester or nylon; moisture-wicking and quick-drying. These fabrics do not stiffen or cling to the body after heavy sweating, making them perfect for sports and fitness activities.

Cotton Blends
Cotton-dominant blends incorporating small amounts of synthetic fibers (like polyester). These combine the skin-friendly comfort of cotton with the wrinkle resistance and durability of synthetics, making them the most common fabric type for women's T-shirts on the market.
