Pre-wash Preparation
Sorting: Separate items by color intensity; wash white T-shirts separately to prevent color bleeding from dark garments. Turn printed T-shirts inside out to minimize friction between the design and the washing machine drum.
Spot Pre-treatment: Apply a small amount of neutral detergent to areas prone to heavy sweat accumulation-such as the collar, cuffs, and underarms-and let it sit for 3–5 minutes to dissolve stains; avoid vigorously scrubbing the ribbed collar.
Water Temperature Control: Ideally use cold water (below 30°C), and do not exceed 45°C; high temperatures can cause cotton fibers to shrink and sweat stains to set and turn yellow.
Core Washing Process
Hand Washing: Gently rub the fabric with neutral detergent and lightly brush key areas with a soft-bristled brush. Gently squeeze out excess water after washing; do not wring or twist vigorously.
Machine Washing: Place the T-shirt in a laundry bag and select the "gentle" or "delicate" cycle to reduce stretching and prevent the collar from becoming loose or misshapen.
Special Stain Treatment: For mild yellowing, soak for 30 minutes in a mixture of 40°C warm water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and half a cup of white vinegar. For stubborn, old yellow stains, soak for 1–2 hours using a food-grade oxygen-based cleaner; for plain white T-shirts without prints, a compliant color-safe bleach may be used.
Post-wash Care
Rinsing: Rinse an extra 1–2 times to ensure no detergent residue remains. Adding a small amount of white vinegar during the final rinse can neutralize alkaline residue and restore the fabric's softness.
Drying: Hang the shirt inside out, inserting the hanger through the bottom hem. Air-dry in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight to prevent the fabric from fading or becoming brittle.
Shaping: Gently stretch and smooth the garment after drying to restore its shape. Use a low-temperature steam iron for minor wrinkles; frequent ironing is unnecessary.
